FIJI IS MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE. HER ISLANDS ALSO OFFER A FANATASTIC RANGE OF ACTIVITIES THAT WILL MAKE YOUR EXPERIENCE THAT MUCH MORE EXCITING.

The Mamanuca and Yasawa Resorts that we visit offer a fantastic range of activities, ranging from adventure to exploration and immersing yourself in the Fijian culture.

We have selected a few of the ‘must do’ activities and added them into our 1 and 2 coconut Fiji Packages as an upgrade. This is called the ‘FULL MONTY’ as you are getting the full version of our suggested itinerary. If you’re into activities such as diving, sailing, Fijian cooking, snorkelling, hiking, then we really do recommend you choose the ‘Full Monty’.

Not booking a package? Simply book what you want with the ‘Build your own Fiji experience’ option, then add on the activities as you travel around!

NOTE: the below activities are only able to be pre-booked with 1 and 2 coconut accommodation or packages (except for Seaspray which can be booked as part of 'Build your own Fiji experience').

SEASPRAY DAY SAILING ADVENTURE

Sail the outer Mamanuca Islands aboard the classic old sailing schooner, Seaspray. Dive into the turquoise water for snorkelling and swimming, enjoy a traditional Fijian village visit and Kava ceremony (except Sundays) and (always a highlight!), visit the island featured in the Tom Hanks movie ‘Castaway’. The sand is so white it’s almost blinding. Don't’ forget your sunglasses! All beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks, morning/afternoon tea and a barbecue lunch are included. It’s a stunner!

SAWAILAU CAVES TRIP

These ancient lime stone caves are situated inside a pretty little island in the Blue Lagoon region. The boat trip up to the caves is worth doing for its own sake because the scenery will blow you away. But then there’s the magical experience of the caves themselves.

You’ll be greeted by Fijian locals, who will guide you down some steps and into the caves. Hold the handrail, as it can get slippery! The first cave is magnificent. Light filters through, allowing you to look around in awe. If you’re up for a little adventure, we recommend you take the option to enter a secondary cavern. To get there you need to swim through an underwater tunnel. It’s all a little bit spooky but the guides will look after you and it is awesome!

REEF SNORKELLING / SWIM WITH THE SHARKS TRIP

Moua Reef is only a short boat ride from the white sandy beaches of Kuata and Waya Lailai Islands. The reef is a spectacular site from above and below the water with an abundance of colourful fish and beautiful corals that call this reef home.

This outer reef is also home to some friendly reef sharks. Jump in and snorkel with them. It gets the adrenalin pumping, but they eat fish not people so no need to worry! Your local guides hand feed the sharks creating awesome underwater photo opportunities.

FIJIAN COOKING SCHOOL

A fantastic experience where you will learn how to cook some traditional Fijian dishes by actually preparing the meal yourself. The food reflects Fiji’s South Pacific neighbours with influences from Polynesia, India, China and Western worlds. Traditional foods include root vegetables and delicious fresh fish, coconut cream and vegetables (many resorts grow their own). A dish that you must try is the marinated fish dish called Kokoda (pronounced ko-kon-da). You’ll crave it forever more! The best part is getting to eat it along with your fellow chefs!

FIJIAN VILLAGE VISIT

A real treat for travellers is being welcomed into the local villages. All Fijians are very strongly rooted to their culture, their land and their mataqali (family). If it sounds like something for your bucket-list, is important you respect customs and go to a village with a guide who can tell you the correct protocol and introduce you to the villagers.

The tours of villages are very relaxed and you’ll be able to wander freely - you’ll meet many of the villagers and particularly the children as they go about their daily life. The Ratu (or Chief) may even welcome you.

GUIDED SUMMIT WALK TO AMAZING ISLAND PEAKS

This is one of the more strenuous excursions on offer but so worth it! The southern Yasawas have rugged volcanic peaks with summits that provide magnificent views out over the surrounding islands and ocean. The best time to be at the summit is sunrise or sunset. Not only is it a cooler time of day, it also lets you see nature add her magic to an already awesome scene. Don’t forget your camera!

GUIDED KAYAKING TRIP

A number of the Yasawa Islands offer guided kayaking trips. These fun-filled excursions venture away from the resort and head out to the very best spots in the area. Your guide will know the best route to take, the best snorkelling spots, the loveliest beaches and be able to tell you of life in the Yasawas as you go. Crystal clear waters below, the sun on your back and the peace and quiet – nice!

SWIM WITH MANTA RAYS (May to October)

If you are lucky enough to experience this, you will talk about it for decades to come! Swimming with manta rays has got to be one of the most amazing experiences the natural world has to offer. Between May and October these majestic creatures glide through the channel between Nanuya Balavu and Drawaqa Islands. They pass through nearly every day on the change of tide to feed.

Of course, they are wild, so we can't guarantee you'll see them but if you do, no photograph will prepare you for that first sighting of them in the water in the beneath you. The mantas don’t seem to mind swimmers so there’s a good chance your encounter will be a lengthy one as they turn and glide in the waters beneath you huge mouths open as they feed on the plankton.

BLUE LAGOON SNORKELLING TRIP

The Blue Lagoon is simply stunning. It is a large lagoon that laps at the golden sand beaches of the islands that encase it. The water shimmers all sorts of blue and it beckons all into its delicious depths! Experience the beautiful coral and fish that swim beneath the lagoon on a snorkelling trip! Take your underwater camera if you have one.

Now this is a must! You’re in Fiji in relaxation-mode so you just have to treat yourself to a luxurious island massage. Enjoy!

HAND-LINE FISHING TRIP

This fun trip is a great way to get chatting to the Fijian locals and meet other villagers out in their boats, bringing in your catch for the day. The fishing trip is more about the experience of throwing over a hand-line, laughing and joking with your crew and admiring the view than actually catching a fish. If you do, it’s a bonus!

Fiji is a diver’s dream. The waters are warm, clear and teaming with life. Many resorts have dive operations, offering fantastic introduction dives for beginners and brilliant dive sites for the experienced. All the dive companies we use are certified, experienced and know all the best places to go. Dive in Fiji if you get the chance, you’ll love it!
