A great way to connect with the local community

The Christian faith arrived in Fiji during the mid-19th century. Today there are various Christian denominations in Fiji, the majority being Methodist. Sunday is typically a day of rest for the Fijians, and their main activity of the day is their visit to their local church.

The churches themselves are suitably humble and quintessentially Fijian so you'll want to take a photo outside the church to remember your visit. The services could be conducted in Fijian, English or a combination of the two languages. These are very spiritual experiences for the Fijians, so you'll often see them close their eyes in connection with their faith.

The highlight for most visitors is the singing. The Fijians fill the church with their moving and uplifting songs of praise. You won't want to miss this distinctively Fijian cultural experience.
